Women activists from NETWON & ITWAN participate in joint workshop in Kathmandu

From the 18 – 19th January, the Independent Transport Workers’ Association of Nepal (ITWAN) and Nepal Yatayat Majdur Sangh (NETWON) held a joint “trade union education & organising strategy” workshop for women activists from both unions.

26 women participated in the workshop, and the General Secretaries of both ITWAN and NETWON attended. The workshop programme included an introduction to the basic tenets of trade unionism, a discussion of organising strategies and collective bargaining,  and an introduction to the ITF.

The Joint Women’s Committee – established at a meeting in December 2015 – also met at the workshop and agreed to organise a “joint programme” for the forthcoming International Women’s Day on March 8th.
